What if your entire world collapses because of one word? Dad?
Eenzaam met twee is an intimate and emotional story about Mark, a 38-year-old father who seems to have it all: a loving relationship with Sophie and a strong bond with Nika, the girl he has raised as his daughter for ten years. During a fertility examination, Mark discovers that he is genetically infertile and that he could never have been the biological father of a child.
This discovery takes place in the present, where Mark is confronted with doubts about his past, his identity, and his role as a father. When he realizes that his fatherhood may be based on a lie, his entire world begins to crumble. He sets out in search of answers and uncovers a truth that changes everything.
The story unfolds mainly in Mark's familiar surroundings, but also in places where he is confronted with the truth: the park where he and Nika made memories together, his apartment, and the places where he faces the medical and emotional consequences of the discovery.
Eenzaam met twee is about the power of a father-daughter bond, but also about loss, identity, and the question of whether family is defined by blood or by love. The central theme is the search for what truly makes someone a parent when everything he thought was certain falls away.
There is still a significant taboo surrounding male infertility. With this film, we want to draw attention to a topic that isn't talked about enough: the emotional impact of infertility on men.
With Eenzaam met twee, we hope to make this subject easier to discuss and to create more understanding. Not only for the person who is infertile, but also for the people around them. Talking about infertility and the feelings that come with it is often difficult, and that's why we want this film to start a conversation.
With this film, we hope to make male infertility more open for discussion. It's a topic that isn't talked about enough, and one that still carries a taboo.
Alongside this, we also want to show the pressure surrounding the idea of a "perfect" family, and the vulnerability that can come with it. We don't just want to tell the story of someone experiencing infertility, but also give attention to the difficulties of being open about it with others.
With this film, we hope to encourage people to open up, to start conversations, and to create more understanding, both for the person themselves and for the people around them.
We've woven several themes into our film, allowing multiple target audiences to recognize themselves in the story. Our main target audience is couples facing fertility issues, but people who have gone through difficult relationships or a divorce can find themselves in it too. Alongside this, we focus mainly on fathers and the taboo surrounding male vulnerability. With this film we want to show that men, too, can struggle with difficult emotions and insecurities, and that talking about this matters.
